Harry Potter book seven SPOILERS OF DOOM!
WARNING! SPOILERS CONTAINED WITHIN OF HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS. DO NOT READ IF YOU WISH TO REMAIN UNSPOILED!
It all starts in the Dursely home, where Harry is about to leave, a few days before he turns 17 and thus can work magic outside of school. The plan is to take him before the Death Eaters think he'll leave the house and thus smuggle him to safety. With the use of polyjuice potion - which can transform the drinker into looking like someone else, just add a strand of hair and POOF! you look like that person, sound like that person.
Anyway, thirteen people come to smuggle Harry away and six of them drink the potion, adding Harry's hair and thus look like him. The intent being for seven different harry's to leave, going seven different directions and thus throwing the DE's off the trail. In the end, both Weasley twins, Hermione, Fleur (bill's wife), Ron, and Mundugus Fletcher (the theif who stole from Sirius' house after sirius died) change into Harry. Unfortunately, Snape tells the DEs that Harry's being smuggled out earlier and there's dozens of DEs that show up and track all the fake harry's.
They figure out Harry's the one with Hagrid and chase after him, there's a huge fight scene in which the side car Harry was riding in - Hagrid being on Sirius' motorbike, breaks off and Harry starts to plummet. Curses are flying everywhere, including the Avada and Hedwig gets caught in the crossfire and dies.
Harry and Hagrid make it to their safe house and then portkey to an aunt of Molly's. There he spends a lot of time not knowing if any of the others have made it, fearing the worse. George Weasley, one of the twins, loses an ear through a dark curse and thus the ear can not be replaced. Mad-eye Moody dies when his pretend Harry, Mundugus flees and no one comes out of it unscathed.
There's a wedding for Bill and Fleur where Harry attends disguised as a Weasley cousin. He hears hints here that Albus is not all that he seems. That Albus did some terribly bad things when he was Harry's age. Once the reception is underway, it's attacked by DEs and the trio go on the run. With the intent of eventually going to find the Horcuxes. They never stay in one place very long and as time goes on with little to no progress, the tension mounts. There are mentions of attacks on muggles, on the DE taking over the ministry, of muggleborn wizards and witches being arrested and accused of stealing magic, of the whole of England living in terror.
They find only one horcux at first and can't figure out a way to destroy it. The horcux also drives them to snipe at each other, feeding on the tension and increasing it. Much like the ring in LotR books, but this is an amulet. The tension gets to be too much and Ron snaps, leaving Harry and Hermione behind. Harry and Mione knowing that as soon as they move camp, he won't be able to find them again.
Harry and Hermione keep going, keep trying to figure out where the Horcuxes could be. Even visiting Godric's Hallow. All the while Harry tries to figure out the truth behind the rumours of the bad things Albus apparently did. This is a mistake because Voldemort leaves behind a trap that almost captures Harry and Hermione. They flee and soon after, almost stumble upon another horcux. Mostly by accident. There Harry sees a doe patronus who leads him to the Horcux, Godric gryfinndoor's sword in a frozen over lake. This doe patronus becomes highly significant later on.
Ron shows up shortly after harry finds the sword, saving him from drowning. Ron uses the sword to destroy the amulet they found with one horcux in it. The one feeding and amplifying tension. He rejoins them and they then work towards finding out where the remaining Horcuxes could be. They know one must have belonged to Helga Hufflepuff, another to Rowena Ravenclaw, and with Naginni being another.
They find the hufflepuff one - a badger cup, inside Bellatrix's vault. Getting in by Hermione polyjuicing into Bellatrix and escaping by the skin of their teeth on the back of a dragon. They believe that Luna's dad might know something, due to a book Dumbledore leaves Hermione and go talk to him, but he betrays them by calling the DE on them. Seeming to think he could trade them in so as to secure his daughter's release from them. Her being held hostage in Azkaban or somewhere, because of the things he's been publishing in support of Harry.
They escape from there and head to Hogwarts, the only place the Ravenclaw horcux could be hiding. There the battle starts, people start dying left and right and no one knows where to start looking for the horcux. The professors start trying to evacuate the younger students, curses start flying everywhere and Harry goes with Luna to Ravenclaw dormitory to see what the horcux, a diadem, looks like. I love the little peak we get into the Ravenclaw dormitory and how they get inside. Having to solve a riddle as opposed to remember a password.
Things that happen during the battle. McGonagall dueling quite a few people, even siccing transfigured chairs on death eaters. Snape being sought out, several people trying to curse him and him escaping by flying out of a window. No broom involved. Other things I don't recall at the moment. Harry figures out where the diadem is by peeking into Voldemort's thoughts and goes to get it. Draco and his goons are there, to try to stop him, they fight and one of the goons creates a kind of fire that destroys all the things hidden in the same place as the diadem and somehow destroys the diadem. Leaving only Naginni. Or so we think.
Harry heads out to where Voldie is and sees Voldie confronting Snape. Killing him under the assumption this will allow Voldie to control a super powerful wand Voldie took from Dumbledore's grave. Once Voldie leaves, Harry goes to snape and with Severus gives him a strand of thought with his last breath. Harry eventually goes to the Headmaster's quarters and uses the pensieve to look at Snape's thought. There he learns that Snape knew Lily for most of their young lives and was in love with her. His calling her a mudblood leading to the split of their friendship and her going to James, Sev losing her love. We also learn that he's been following Dumbledore's instructions all along. That Dumbledore ordered him to kill him and to stay deep under cover. That it was Snape who cast the doe patronus that led Harry to Godric's sword. That it was Snape who helped, more than we can know, to give Harry a good chance of winning. That Dumbledore believes that in order for Voldie to die, Harry must die too. That Harry, himself, is a Horcux. One that can be destroyed only by Voldie.
He goes off to the forbidden forrest, where Voldie is to confront him. Intending to go quietly to his death and offer no resistance at all. He tries not to think of all the people he loves and must now leave behind. Of the terrible sacrifice he must make, one he has known he would have to make eventually. He goes under his invisibilty cloak and steps out of it, in front of Voldie and does not move for his wand. Just standing there, allowing Voldie to cast the Kedavra and Harry dies.
Harry has an "out of body" dream, where he meets Dumbledore at an empty, all white, Kings cross station. In this dream, he has the talk he wishes he had had with him before Dumbledore died. Harry learns the truth of Dumbledore's early life. That he, in fact, did know Grindewald - the first evil wizard, and was his friend. That he shared Grindewald's ambitions for awhile. That Dumbeldore had been using Harry all his life, in some way. He also learns that Dumbledore thinks that though Harry is dead, he could go back, because, in part, Voldie used Harry's blood to create a new body. Thus allowing Harry to use that to return to life, the horcux bit that was in Harry now destroyed, leaving Harry free to live his life and possibly kill Voldie.
He returns to life, but pretends to be dead. Narcissa confirming his death when she learns Draco is alive and in Hogwarts. Hagrid, sobbing, carries Harry back to Hogwarts and Voldie boasts that he's won. That Harry is dead. Tells everyone to surrender. When they see that harry's dead, a huge outcry occurs and a battle starts. Nevile beheads Naginni, the last Horcux and refuses to go to Voldie's side. Suffering huge burns for doing so. Somewhere in here Bellatrix dies while dueling with Molly. Harry starts helping the good side while under invisibility cloak. Trying to get in position to deal with Voldie. He finally does so and they face each other.
Harry tells Voldie that the super powerful wand he's holding had been taken from Dumbledore forcibly by Draco - draco not realizing what he had. That since Harry defeated Draco earlier and took another wand from him, thus the wands power being transfered to Harry as a reward of sorts, that any other wand of Draco's would recognize this. That the super powerful wand in Voldie's hand would recognize Harry as it's master and obey him. Voldie thinks this is ridiculous, casts an Avada, Harry and expeliaramus. The spells meet, the wand flies out of Voldie's hand and twists and turns, as if not sure who to obey. It turns on Voldie, he's surrounded by green and he dies.
Death eater's flee. And eventually the battle is over. The cost of winning is high. There are at least 50 people dead, at least that much, if not more, with terrible injuries. Some of which will scar them for life. Among the dead: Hedwig, Mad-eye Moody, Scrimengour - the Minister of Magic, Dobby - the house elf while saving Harry's life. Fred Weasley, Tonks and Remus Lupin - leaving behind an orphaned son; Pettigrew, killed by his own hand when he hesitated to act against Harry. Severus Snape. Harry himself, but he's "resurrected" for lack of a better word. And others.
Some favorite scenes: every one Luna or Neville was in. Also where Trelawney finally gets to shine and starts throwing her crystal balls - her most cherished possessions at the Death eaters. And where Kreacher leads the house elves against the Death Eater's.
